This is one of the unique ways COPA’s structure varies from traditional non-profit boards. The Coordinating Council is composed of representatives from the Affiliated Programs and community members. The community members are volunteers who support COPA’s mission. They have a passion for peace creation/building and share their skills, knowledge and wisdom to help COPA prosper and grow as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The Coordinating Council meets monthly. The Coordinating Council makes decisions using “formal consensus”, a process that allows for all ideas to be heard. If there are disagreements about decisions, the details of the disagreements are documented and the person disagreeing agrees to allow the decision to move forward. The documentation allows the Coordinating Council to revisit the decision, if needed or requested, so the issue can be discussed again.
If you are interested in serving on COPA's Coordinating Council, please consider attending a meeting or participating in one of COPA's programs or events in order to see how we function. Contact any of the individuals on the current Coordinating Council for more ideas about how to get involved with COPA.
